We have sprung an hour ahead today in British Columbia. Do you have Daylight Savings time where you are? I think the province is supposed to forget about daylight savings time, but I heard they are waiting for the States in the same time zone to get ready to do it at the same time. So who knows when that will happen. Some people get worked up about Daylight Savings time, but I am agnostic about it, other than the annoyance of changing clocks. At least my computers do it themselves. I just wish kitchen appliance makers would stop putting clocks on their devices.
Monday
Dream High is a Korean drama from 2011 that I watched on the Viki network of Asian shows because I heard it featured Suzy Bae, who I liked in Start Up and IU, who I liked in Hotel del Luna. Some people might find it cheesy, but I found it entertaining, with several interwoven story arcs on the sacrifices and luck needed to become successful, whatever that means.
Tuesday
Posting comics has become my proxy for actually talking to them. Occasionally, people actually respond. Last week, I did a comic about not being able to recognize bird calls and a friend recommended an app called Merlin, developed with Cornell University. It is quite interesting to see and hear what it can detect and identify. This was when I first tested it out with a bird that I knew.
Wednesday
I usually prefer to listen to fiction audiobooks, because I’m usually washing the dishes, and if I’m listening to non-fiction, it’s hard to take notes. Even so, it was fun to listen to this one read by the author. He has a friendly way of speaking and writing. Once upon a time, I used to work at the Ontario Science Centre and did presentations on the human body with a 3D model and that was helpful in remember what is where inside. Still, his book was full of interesting anecdotes about ailments and discoveries related to our bodies.
Thursday
Our dog is generally pretty good, but sometimes “it” happens. We got a fancy vacuum cleaner that’s works pretty well, especially on number 1. This was a number 2, but fortunately, fairly solid.
Friday
I am not a particularly tidy person, but for things that I use regularly, I like to have a routine associated with them so I don’t have to think about where I put them. Sometimes I get distracted in the midst of a routine and then in the aftermath, it can be a strain to find them.
Saturday
I’ve been using the Merlin birding app now when I take the dog out. It has made me more conscious of bird sounds, as well as the amount of vehicular noises. So instead of bird watching, I am starting to do some bird listening.
Sunday
I have been reading the classic Chinese epic Journey to the West while I eat breakfast. Since it features a Buddhist monk, I suspected it would be didactic, but if it is, it is very subtle. I mostly like the humour and action. I probably should have scrutinized the text more carefully to illustrate the characters more faithfully, but this was more or less what was lingering in my mind after reading a bit this morning.
There goes my week. I hope you had a good one with a better one to come.
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the Merlin app! And to answer your question, here in Tucson & for most of AZ (except for the Navajo Nation), we don't observe Daylight Saving Time. 😀
High school Kdramas are the best! Dream High is one of my favourites. You could also watch Dream High 2 and Moorim School: Saga of the Brave.
Here in India, we don't observe Daylight Saving Time because there isn’t much difference in the daylight available during summers and winters.
