When most of my comics are born during dog walks, it probably means I’m not doing anything that interesting. I’ve noticed people walking their dogs and looking at their phones, which seems like a missed opportunity to think.
Monday
The trouble with using the Flex Seal spray was that the opening between the edge of the roof and the gutter is narrow so it’s hard to get in there. This was just for the garage, so it wasn’t so hazardous and I survived. It still hasn’t rained enough to tell if I did it right.
Tuesday
It seems as though if you perceived the world through smell, your sense of time might be different, almost like how Vonnegut describes the way Tralfamadorians perceive time in Slaughterhouse-Five but maybe not with the future. If that makes any sense.
Wednesday
The garbage bin covered in wriggling maggots did kind of weird me out and I wondered what was going on but did not really want to find out because it smelled bad.
Thursday
I have read only a few of the many No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith. They are not exactly action-packed, but they make me smile and I liked the TV series they did a while ago. Listening to an audiobook I borrowed from the library, it was interesting to hear how they pronounced “Mma” as a female honorific. Okay, I should probably read more stories set in Africa written by people other than a white guy in Britain.
Friday
The interesting thing I have noticed about committing myself to drawing a cartoon every morning is that I am more aware of ideas that might be useful as cartoon fodder. Although some amuse me more than others, I can never really tell how other people will react to them, but I am finding it an interesting practise.
Saturday
I seemed to be having more adventures while walking Cookie this week. I don’t know these people but I saw them on a street we regularly walk. Young, well-dressed Asian men. It reminded me and my brothers so long ago preparing for the Chinese custom of the tea with my wife’s parents. I was surprised by the smoking, which reminded me of scenes involving firing squads.
Sunday
I suppose the reference is a little old now, Call Me Maybe by the Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen, but I still get a kick out of this silly joke for some reason. That is supposed to be a Doryteuthis opalescence the species most commonly caught for calamari in California.
That was my week. I hope you had a good one and have a better one to come.
