Brrr
8 January 2024 - 14 January 2024
It seems I made a lot of typos in the last newsletter. Possibly before as well. I’ll try to be a little more careful. Mind you, I have heard of some cultures that intentionally put “mistakes” into their work so that they do not seem so prideful as to imitate the perfection of their Creator. And of course, evolution depends on errors of transcription to generate mutations that might happen to be beneficial.
Monday
I admit that most of the clothes on the coat rack are mine. That’s because I take the dog out three times a day, and the conditions vary. I used to have a weather app that showed you what to wear depending on the conditions, but their wardrobe did not match mine.
Tuesday
This was one of those days when I didn’t have something to comic about, so I thought of things that come in fours to fill the four panels. Also, one of the New York Times games I play, besides Wordle, is Connections, in which you have to find groups of four words that have something in common.
Wednesday
I had a job interview once, where I was asked what I did when I didn’t get along with someone. I told them that I get along with most people, so the problem must be the other person. Even if that were true, I now realize that that does not really help. These days, I hardly talk to anybody in person, so I might be even worse at getting along with others. I am open to advice.
Thursday
To understand new things, we seem to compare them to things we already know. Especially with uncertain situations, all kind of cognitive biases come into play. I find this an incredibly unsettling time. I hope you are able to stay healthy, physically and mentally.
Friday
The snow has not been such an issue this time around, but the cold has been challenging. I am underwhelmed by the performance of the heat pump when it gets below -5 C. Also my lungs do not seem to be performing so well in the cold, dry weather. I am hoping it is not something else.
Saturday
Our dog still seems to like being out when it is chilly, but sometimes I see she is holding a paw off the ground clenched, so that is when I try to warm it up with my hand. Though if I have to do it too often, then my own fingers get too cold to be helpful.
Sunday
I don’t know if it’s the coldness or the dryness, but I do not feel quite up to par. In case it is something else, I am masking at home and mostly staying in my office.
This was my week. I hope you had a good one with a better one to come.

That's quilting that Mennonites deliberately put mistakes into, not writing. But as a quilter, I think it is prideful to deliberately put in mistakes. I just let mine arise naturally.
Hi Ray,
Happy new year! I remember attending the new year feast that your parents put on. They were great.
I hope you feel better soon! Ting xox
